Description
A decadent chocolate cake shaped like a black cat, finished with a glossy dark chocolate ganache and cute candy eyes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup black cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Black gel food coloring (optional)
- 6–8 large candy eyes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F and grease two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Sift together flour, black cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes completely. Place one layer on a plate and carve a smaller circle from the second layer to place on top as the head.
- Cut two triangles from the remaining cake scraps and attach them to the head as ears using a small amount of frosting.
- Heat heavy cream until simmering, then pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes and stir until glossy.
- Pour the ganache over the cake, smoothing the top and sides with a spatula.
- Press candy eyes into the head section and let the cake set for 20 minutes before serving.
