Description

Buttery, soft sugar cookies designed to hold their shape for holiday decorating. These cookies remain tender for days and provide a clean sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms; do not overmix.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  7. On a floured surface, roll the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are barely golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
