Description

Playful ghost-themed vanilla cupcakes featuring a hidden, decadent chocolate ganache center and fluffy white frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • 12 mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with liners.
  2. Heat heavy cream until simmering, pour over chopped chocolate, let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth to create the ganache. Let it cool.
  3. Cream together 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the flour, baking powder, and salt mixture with the milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full and bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cupcakes to cool completely, then core out the center of each cupcake using a small knife or cutter.
  8. Pipe or spoon the cooled chocolate ganache into the centers of the cupcakes.
  9. Beat together 1/4 cup butter, powdered sugar, and 1 tbsp heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  10. Pipe a high swirl of frosting on each cupcake to create a ghost shape.
  11. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes and a mouth.
