Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, stirring until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly among the liners and bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cupcakes completely on a wire rack before frosting.
- Beat 1 cup butter and powdered sugar until smooth; add milk, vanilla, and green food coloring until desired shade is reached.
- Pipe tall, irregular swirls of frosting on each cupcake to resemble twisted forest trees.
