Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
- Sift flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl.
- Whisk oil, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla in a separate bowl until smooth.
- Stir in the black gel food coloring until the mixture is a deep, uniform black.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar until fluffy, then frost the cooled layers.
